DRV10983Q1EVM: Register writing not successful!!

The DRV10983 requires 22V to write to the EEPROM. Please Read section 8.3.5 Non-Volatile Memory of the datasheet.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the response regarding the voltage.  However, I am using the Q1 part, which according to it's datasheet, section 8.3.6, the acceptable voltage range is 6.2V to 28V.  I'm within that range, so I don't believe this is the issue.  However, easy enough for me to try, and I did.  Still no worky.  

Any other thoughts?

Further information:  I brought out a Win7 machine and after freak'n hours of trying to get LabView runtime installed, I managed to get the DRV019xx EVM application installed on that machine.  However SAME error when I try to run the app on that machine:  DRV10983 USB2ANY.lvclass:Write Register.vi<ERR>.

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael, in the link you sent it is Issue #1 that is similar to mine.  There is no information given but instead only questions for which I can answer:

1. When powering the EVM and Device with a VCC > 6.2V and VCC < 28V, is VREG = 5V, and V1P8 = 1.8V?    Yes, Vcc is 12V-24V (I have tried various values), Vr=5V, V1p8 =1.8V
2. If J2 is configured to use the potentiometer (R2), does the device try to start spinning a motor when it is turned clockwise?   Yes and the motor will turn for a few seconds then stop, and restart.
3. Do you connect the USB2ANY after the device is powered up and observe that the yellow light on the USB2ANY is not flashing (i.e. steadily on)?   Yes, it is steady on.
4. Are the markings or text on the top of IC show DRV10987?  In my case, the chip is a DRV10983SQ1.
5. When opening the GUI, is the DRV10987 option selected in the drop down?  In my case I select DRV10983Q1
6. After hitting continue on this error message, are you able to click the Enable Configuration Button and have the button turn green without any error? Can you click the manual refresh button without triggering any errors?  The Enable Config button is already green.  If I toggle it to red, I get the error twice.  If I toggle it back to green, I get the error twice.
7. Did you close the GUI and start the program in administrative mode to ensure there are no permission errors with the GUI accessing the LabView Runtime program?  Yes I run as Admin and see the same.

Is there someone I can work with real time to get this resolved, Michael?  The one response per day isn't allowing me to progress.

It sounds to me like the issue is with you USB2ANY can you verify with a scope that there SCL and SDA signals getting to the EVM? I have used USB2ANY Explorer to update the box firmware, which I'm 90% sure I had done when I first received the box as I recall a popup telling me a FW update was needed.  Same result- still have the error.

I will grab a scope shortly and test the interface however a question for you as I chase ghosts here:  Are you personally sure the device works with Win10?

Yes I know the device works with windows 10. I am using windows 10 on my laptop when I use the EVM and USB2ANY and GUI.

When you are opening the DRV10XX GUI is it asking you to update the firmware after using the USB2ANY explorer to update the software?

No, I recall it only prompting me to update the FW the very first time I powered it.  Since then, no prompt.

I do not see any clock on the SCL line.  I'm watching it when I open the utility and also hit any key.  No change.  The clock line is high and the SC line is always low and the SD line is always high, as probed on the DRV board.

Can you see if you can use the USB2ANY explorer software and see if you can send any I2C signals using that software?

Can you try to uninstall the DRV109x GUI, reinstall the labview runtime engine, install it in the default directory, and then install the DRV109x GUI after that and install it in the default directory. This might work if the USB2ANY explorer software works but the DRV10987 GUI does not.

Yeah I had the same thought and have been looking into what I can send directly (or what I can Read directly).  If you have any hand holding for that, it would be appreciated, as I work to figure out all the settings needed.

I do see the slave address should 0x52 for that IC (please confirm).

Not sure what Internal Address (Hex) should be but tired 0x20 (typing in "20" there) to attempt to read EEPROm default value of 0x4A according to Table 8 of DRV datasheet.  But no joy on that reading.

Any advice appreciated here.

What version of Labview RTE are you using?  I cannot install 2014 as I have 2018 installed already.

Before I do that, I would like to confirm that the USB2ANY works.  Do you have a config I can try as I am still trying to get any response from that tool.

That is probably why the GUI is not working Labview 2014 is needed. Can you access another computer where you can try with labview 2014?

Ok, as I pointed out at the beginning, I've tried this on one Win10 machine and 2 Win7 machines.  All the same failure.  

- One of the Win7 machines also had a later version of LV installed so it would not allow 2014 RTE installation

-Another Win7 machine had nothing but now has 2014 installed.  SAME problem.

I would like to confirm that the USB2ANY indeed works.  Can you see my above request on what configurations (IE what do I put in all the little boxes of that GUI) to confirm this?
