This Summer we introduced the new Sitara AM437x processor family. In case you’ve forgotten, these processors integrate support for industrial protocols for both automation and industrial drives while also allowing customers to differentiate their designs with the quad core programmable real-time units (PRU). The PRU offloads real-time processing from the ARM to manage tasks such as controlling motors.

The AM437x processors enable position feedback control via protocols such as EnDat 2.2 and motor control via fieldbus protocols like EtherCAT in parallel. The quad core PRU in AM437x processors together with other peripherals such as PWM and eQEP allows customers to implement a single chip industrial drive solution.

From stepper motor control such as those used in 3D printers to industrial drives and servo motors that require fieldbus and/or position feedback control such as those found in inverters and factory automation, the quad core PRU in AM437x provides an excellent single chip connect-spin-control solution for customers looking to differentiate.
