Hello.
I was experiencing similar problem with MAXIM MAX202 IC: very often it could latch up and start overheating after I applied power to my device.
I could narrow down the conditions when it latched up. My device takes +5V power from external PSU.…
Hikmet,
I was out for two week and my replacement didn't catch this new question.
The higher VOH, VOL of the MAX202E would help improve voltage margin, but it won't improve speed due to high output impedance.
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3221E , TRS3221E , MAX202 , MAX232 Hi,
May I know what are the differences between MAX3221E and TRS3221E?
Is TRS3221E more cost competitive?
Thanks,
Phil
Matt,
The RS232 standard states receivers must accept +/-3V as a valid signal. Drivers must provide at least +/-5V.
Receivers not required to but will honor 0V input the same as -3V. This is needed to ensure a fail safe high ROUT with an open cable input…
I checked the PSU, it is delivering exactly 5 volts. I also put a scope on the rails and checked for ripple, there is approximately 40mV Pk-Pk ripple, which does not change as the temperature changes.
I tried swapping the MAX202 chip for another one we…
Thanks for the ideas.
It certainly seems like the device is in shutdown, however all 4 receivers were working (not just 4 and 5).
I'm using non-polar ceramic 0806 caps, 25V rated. I've successfully used the same caps with other RS232 transceivers (ie…
Hi Ron,
Unfortunately, I cannot send any of these units since they are all on the boards assembled. We used 1 uF capacitors with MAX202 based on the statement "The MAX202 requires 0.1 uF capacitors, although capacitors up to 10 uF can be used without…
Cory Frey said: is there a specific TI part that will work for this situation The Grandfather of those chips is the MAX232. We use the MAX202E. It takes 4*100nF capacitors to generate the +-10V for the RS232 side from a single +5V supply. There are also…
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F147 , MAX202 We have several hundreds of device incorporating MSP430F147/148/149 running.
Recently, we started experiencing failures in UART1 Rx pin (URXD1). This pin is driven by a logic gate powered by the same…
