TL026: AGC Amplifier

Part Number: TL026
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH6505, THS7530, VCA810

I'm looking for an AGC amplifier replacement for the venerable MC1350 and are looking at the TL026 but it doesn't seem to be applicable as a replacement. Have I missed something? Would there be a better device??

Bill

  • Bill,

TL026 is not a pin to pin drop in replacement.

What are the requirements for a replacement device?

  • Thanks for your rapid response.

Pin for pin replacement is not a requirement. Just functional which is 35 to 45 dB gain at at 10 MHz, about 50 dB AGC range, AGC voltage positive (or negative but not +/- as I understand the TL026 seems to require and operate from 9 to 12V and ground. (no negative supply). Oh - the device needs to be less that around $5 in quantity.

    Thanks...Bill

  • Bill,

TL026 can do it in two stages (two TL026). TL026 can run on a single supply if the setup is compatible. Input at 1/2 supply, and VAGC relative to VREF (so it is positive, but a limited voltage range)

Some have digital selected gain and others have a linear gain control.

For linear AGC , here are some options

LMH6505 has the 50dB AGC range but most of it is attenating so you would need a fixed gain preamp to drive it.

THS7530 has more gain but less range.

VCA810 has the gain and range but may be over budget.

These last three products are not mine. So start a new post if you have more question about these other devices.

  • Hi Ron,

Thanks again for the information. Since I have the TL026 I will work with it for a bit but the suggestion that I might consider the LMH6505 looks like a better choice all around so I'll get some and try it out. Thanks again for your help...Bill
