PGA308EVM: Struggling to calibrate external sensor

Part Number: PGA308EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA308

Hello,

Need assistance for calibration process of an external sensor with external power supply.

Struggling to get output voltage on external meter.

Please give me a call to go through jumper/process. (I did watch your series of videos, sbfc32 to 35)

Let me know, thank you.

  • Hi,

I can provide assistance with the jumper settings and setting up the PGA308EVM demonstration kit with the external sensor.

Can you please clarify the following:

    - Please clarify the mode of operation: the PGA308 Voltage output for a four terminal module (Vout and 1W with independent connections), three terminal mode (1W connected to Vout), or current output mode.

    - Does the PGA308EVM work as expected when using the internal ADC, and the USB-DAQ sensor emulator?

    -  What is the voltage of the external supply and/or what is the voltage used for excitation of the sensor?  What is the common-mode voltage of the external sensor vs the local GND of the PGA308EVM?  If possible let us know what the maximum sensor differential voltage

    -   Are you attempting to configure the HP34401 external multimeter with the PGA308EVM? I will need to access a PC with the RS-232 interface that supports the external 34401multi-meter connection;  and get hold of the proper DB-9 serial cable connection. I can answer the questions regarding the external sensor, jumpers and GUI settings; however, setting the PGA308EVM in the lab with the external 34401 multimeter to reproduce any multimeter issues may take a couple of days since I will need to access a PC supporting the RS-232 interface.

I can also contact you via private conversation.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis

  • Hello Luis,

I am trying to change the output signal of a known good load cell using the PGA test board.
I am trying to perform that task under the calibration tab of the PGA software.
I tried to change JUMP7 and 1 to different mode, doesn't seems to change anything.
I also put JUMP 17 and 18 to ext since my sensitive element is external.

I am not using current output mode

The PGA308EVM seems to work correctly while using internal ADC and emulator.

I have a full bridge load cell, 350ohm, fully balanced, powered under 5V regulated supply.
I have V+ and GND of the load cell plugged externally to the 5V source and load cell signal (+ and -) plugged to T5 (Vin1 and Vin2)

No, I am not configuring the HP34401 external multimeter. Just using an external multimeter to read load cell output. My Vout is connected on T4 to the external multimeter.

    Please switch to private conversation.
Would be even better to have a phone call in this case.

    Thanks.

  • HI,

Sounds good.  I have contacted you via private conversation, this way I can exchange contact information.
