TL331B-Q1: All of Spec have Derating or not

Part Number: TL331B-Q1

Hi team,

My customer is curious about that our datasheet show recommend operating temperature is Tj -40 to 125C

but when the detail spec show every character is operating in Ta condition.

Did it have any spec of derating in here ? because if customer operating this part to maximum recommend temperature condition Tj 125C. It will not to guarantee this part  can meet in spec of datasheet or not ?

Please give us some idea and comment ASAP. Thanks ! Customer is very concern this detail.

Eddie

  • The header of the table in section 6.7 of the datasheet says "TA = 25°C (unless otherwise noted)".

The entries for VIO, IB, IOS, VCM, VOL, IOH-LKG, and IQ do have limits for the entire temperature range.

  • Thank you for providing that info Clemens.

    Eddie,

I think that Clemens answered your question so please ask any follow-ups that you have.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Joe and Clemens,

I know our datasheet for character of spec is follow the Ta condition(-40C ~ 125C) or some of spec  is Ta 25C.

And I means if customer have a case let this part operate to Tj 125C and this part can't to meet the datasheet of spec ,right ?

Because the Tj125C not the same with Ta125C , the Tj 125C is more strict then Tc.

But our datasheet recommend TL331QDBVRQ1 can operate in Tj-40C to 125C. could I said that TL331QDBVRQ1 can operate up to Tj125C no problem , but his characters we can't control and promise as the datasheet. Because our datasheet of character is limited in Ta condition.

If so , how about the character spec(VIO, IB, IOS, VCM, VOL, IOH-LKG...) derating between Ta125C and Tj125 ?

  • Up to the test condition of TA = 125 °C, the electrical characteristics are guaranteed.

Up to the absolute maxiumum rating of TJ = 150 °C, the characteristics might be worse or the device might no longer work, but it will not be permanently damaged.

And I think the datasheet indeed is not consistent in where it uses TA and TJ.

  • Hello Eddie,

    Clemens correctly pointed out that:

Up to the test condition of TA = 125 °C, the electrical characteristics are guaranteed.

Up to the absolute maxiumum rating of TJ = 150 °C, the characteristics might be worse or the device might no longer work, but it will not be permanently damaged.

For the case of low power devices such as the TL331B-Q1, TA and Tcan be considered more or less the same test condition. So the specs that you mentioned should be consistent for both TA and TJ.

If you would like more information on thermal metrics, I would encourage you to take a look at this application report: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spra953c/spra953c.pdf
