AMC3301-Q1: rating of 3.3V or 5V power supply connected to VDD pin

Part Number: AMC3301-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC3301, AMC3330-Q1

What should be the power rating of the 3.3V/5V power supply connected to the VDD pin of AMC3301? Does the supply need to be an LDO or can I connect the o/p of a 12V->3.3V/5V switching converter to

power the IC? The reason I am asking is because I plan to use the IC in a motor drive application using SiC FETs for phase current measurements and I am concerned about noise corrupting my current measurements.

Thank you and Regards,

Arun

  • Hi Arun,

the supply voltage of an amplifier always needs to be clean, stable and noise-free and can be provdided by a linear regulator or a switcher, provided you keep the supply voltage ripple sufficiently low. A good switcher circuit always has Pi-filters at the input and output which are usually recommended and discussed in the datasheet or appnote of switcher.

  • Hi Aaron,

Along with Kai's comments about the switcher, please find the MAX power consumption of the AMC3330-Q1 in section 6.5 of the datasheet (page 5).  The numbers shown there assume you are using 1mA of current from the high-side LDO.
