LM2903B-Q1: the meaning of response time with its test conditions

Part Number: LM2903B-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2903,

Hi e2e:

Could you please explain the meaning of response time with its test conditions from the below graph? What does the input overdrive mean? And how to understand the value of both 300 and 1000ns?

Best regards,

Chengdp

  • Hello Chengdp,

"Overdrive" is the amount of voltage above the threshold.

So "10mV" means the applied voltage on one input is 10mV greater than the other input, as shown above.

For the LM2903, the original spec was 5mV.

The "TTL" input is over 4V of overdrive.

Comparators respond faster to larger amounts of overdrive.

This effect is shown in the Propagation Delay vs. Input Overdrive graphs in section 3.16 of the LM2903B-Q1 datasheet (page 14).
