TLV2474A-Q1: IC recommendation with Thermal condition enhancement

Part Number: TLV2474A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2333, TLV2474A, TLV9064-Q1, OPA2333-Q1, TLV2474-Q1, OPA2333-HT, TLC2274-HT

Hi team,

Could you recommend op amp that is pin to pin with TLV2474A-Q1 and have similar spec?

It is 4 channel amplifier and SOIC package.

Customer needs IC with better thermal condition in terms of power dissipation.

+ Do we also have IC which max temp is over 125 degree? (doesn't have to be pin to pin)

  • Hey Zena,

To help you find a replacement, specify the orderable part number for the SOIC device you're using in your application.

I would also like to know the specific temperature you are working at and if a Q1-rating is required?

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • It is TLV2474AQDRG4Q1, and yes, customer needs Q1 device.

    They are also considering TLC2274EPWRQ1.

  • Hey Zena,

    The OPA2333: https://www.ti.com/product/OPA2333-HT has a temperature range of -55C to 210C. Although, it is not a drop-in for TLV2474A.

A drop-in replacement for TLV2474AQDRG4Q1 would be TLV9064-Q1: www.ti.com/.../TLV9064-Q1. If the customer goes for this alternative part, they have to consider the lower output current on the TLV9064-Q1.

Hope I was able to answer your question, if not feel free to reach out.

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • Hi Ore,

Thanks, but checked that OPA2333-Q1, automotive device has max 125 degree spec.

Could you answer these questions below?

    1. Check schematic for TLV2474-Q1 and see if there's anything to revise?

    2. Check TLC2274EPWRQ1 is fine for pin 2 pin replacement and similar spec?

  • Hello Zena,

Yes the OPA2333-Q1 is different from the OPA2333-HT. The HT one has a wider temperature range than the Q1. I would like to know why a high temperature is needed? does the application have the IC running hot or the IC is exposed to high temperatures?

And using the TLC2274EPWRQ1 is not an advisable drop-in replacement for TLV2474AQDRG4Q1 and the specs and performance are very different. As far as replacements go, the TLV9064-Q1 is an excellent choice.

After reviewing the schematic, it looks like you trying to configure an unused channel ?

If so, use this app note to guide you on how to configure an unused channel.

https://www.ti.com/lit/ab/sboa204a/sboa204a.pdf?ts=1704832036065&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F . Other than that, the schematic looks fine.

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • Hi Ore,

Thanks for the feedback. For unused pin, customer is now hard to change due to their development process.

I heard before that floating unused pin may not cause such damage. Could you check below and see my understanding is correct? Thanks.

A word of comfort to those who may not have used a preferred method to tie off an unused amplifier: You are unlikely to greatly disturb the working op amp(s) in the same package. While you may be drawing some extra current in the unused amp, your system is unlikely to crash and burn. Most modern op amps have independent biasing circuitry, unperturbed by overloads in other channels on the same chip. If your circuits are working, relax and follow best practices in your next design

  • he HT one has a wider temperature range than the Q1. I would like to know why a high temperature is needed? does the application have the IC running hot or the IC is exposed to high temperatures?

++ I see that TLC2274-HT has 150 max temp but also doesn't have Q1. But datasheet says it is automotive qualified. Do we have auto qualified document for this IC?

Is it safe to use in automotive, and why does this not have Q1 in part number?

  • Hello Zena,

The orderable part number for the TLC2274-HT is TLC2274EPWRQ1, and it shows its Q1 rating. You can check this link for the AECQ100 report:

    https://www.ti.com/quality-reliability-packaging-download/report?opn=TLC2274EPWRQ1

    Regards,

    Ore.

  • Thanks. Then do we have other device like this? AECQ100 and over 125 degree temp?

And please give feedback to this question also.

Could you check below and see my understanding is correct? Thanks
  • Hey Zena,

As far as a Q1 replacement for TLV2474-Q1, the TLV9064-Q1 is recommended and it wouldn't go over 125C in any application.

And your thinking is correct. Floating an unused op-amp is perfectly okay in our newer devices, but if you are trying to configure an unused op-amp, the best option is to use one of the unused op-amp configuration from the apps note attached to this thread. Essentially, you have two options.

I hope I was able to help,

    Regards,

    Ore.
