OPA838: OPA838 Power-Down feature

Part Number: OPA838

Tool/software:

Hi,

Could you please confirm the OPA838 power-down operation?

The question is whether this is simply a reduction of supply current or an actual disable with output disconnect.

Is the output still driving while in Power-Down?

Thank you for your answer.

  • In power-down mode, the output is disabled. So the output voltage can be affected by the feedback resistor(s); see the remarks in section 7.3.3.

  • Dear Clemens,

    Thank you for your answer.

Are you talking from experience with the specific part?

Paragraph 7.3.3 is not clearly stating what you are saying. Neither are figures 6-51 to 6-54.

Can we have a TI employee or FAE confirm your comment?

  • Hi Vzaz,

Clemens is correct that the output is disabled during shutdown. The output enters a high-impedance state and the supply current is reduced. The part will no longer function like an amplifier.

    Best,

    Jacob

  • Thank you for your answers Jacob and Clemens.

    Understood.
