OPA544 and reduced power supply.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA544, OPA548

I need to minimize power dissipation in an applicaiton using the OPA544 at 1A into a 0.1 Ohm resistor.  I would normally use ± 15V for the rails but this results in too much power dissipation for the heatsink avaliable.  The OPA544 is specified down to ± 10V rails.  How does it perform at ± 7or 8 Volt rails?

Thanks,

Bruce Coyne

  • Bruce,

The OPA544 is rated and tested down to +/-10V and is unlikely to perform properly at +/-7V. I recommend the OPA548. I believe it would perform well at +/-5V at 1A output.

    Regards, Bruce.

  • Bruce,

Thanks, for the information.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to sue the OPA548 due to the bias current spec and the higher offset voltage drift.  I may need to find an improved heat sink or improve the air flow over the one we are planning on using.

    Thanks,

    Bruce Coyne
