TLV521 as a comparator?

May I check with you that LMV601 is suitable as comparator application and TLV521 is not since it has input clamping diodes?

    Hi Ting,

    The TLV521 does not have differential protection diodes, but should not be used as a comparator as large differential voltages can cause long-term offset drift. This is the reason for the 300mV limit.

    The LMV601 can be used as a comparator, though we do not recommend using op-amps as comparators. A real comparator can give better results.

    Hello Paul,

    In TLV512 datasheet absolute max rating, input differential voltage is +/-300mV. I thought there are input clamping diodes by seeing the input voltage limitations?

    Hi Ting,

    D'oh! You are right. I missed that line... I even went back and looked at the schematics to verify there were no diodes.

    It was found that strapping the 521 inputs to opposite rails (Vdiff = Vs) for long periods caused offset drift, so the ±300mV limitation was added later.

    My apologies...I'll correct the post.

    We do have low power comparators (TLV3691, TLV350x/370x). Are they looking for low offset?
