Hello,

My requirement is to monitor the 120V AC power supply when the load(1500Watt Heater) is connected and maintained the power level when there is variation in input range(110 VAC to 125VAC). I am trying to build a circuit which can deliver below result:

Input current Delta = 1.63 Amp(Rms)

Vout= 0-5VAC (pk-pk)

I thought of using an AMC1100 amplifier. can anyone suggest which approach would meet my requirement?

Hi Rajesh,

The AMC1100 may be able to meet your needs, however the output voltage is not going to be 0-5V. The output common mode voltage will be dependent on the VDD2 supply, and then the output swing will be +/-2V from the output Vcm. Tell us a little more about your application and I'm sure we can help you choose the right part.

Hello Tom,

sorry for the delayed response, the application would be to use this in Toaster and Temp Probe ovens, The wattage of the heaters in this type of product need monitoring on the 120VAC/230VAC line. Basically, need power leveling when there is a variation in the 120/230VAC power supply. the variation could be +/-10%.

Currently, this feature is not yet implemented in the any of the product so looking for a cost effective solution.

I have come up with some approaches:

1. Using Current transformer:

It seems very bulky and fairly expensive.This would be appropriate for my requirement since I am sensing high current(5-10Amp)

2. Hall Effect current sensor:

It's easy to use but expensive.

3. Isolation Amplifier: (AMC1100)

expensive and complex, but it seems the desired accuracy can be achieved using this method.

4. Using a Step-Down transformer and drop the voltage to the desired level. it's easy to use but the problem with this to get the right transformer.

could you please suggest the best approach for this kind of application with the low-cost design.
