INA128: Can INA128 work with Single Power Supply of 4.3 V?

Part Number: INA128
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA321, INA333

Hello,

My question is as the title implies. I saw several designs using INA128 with a single supply. The thing I am concerned about is the I checked the datasheet and it states dual power supply. Am I correct? Thanks

  • Hello Waleed,

The INA128 is designed to be operated from a dual supply. It should be possible to power it from a single supply, but careful attention must be paid to establishing correct input common-mode voltage and reference voltage levels. Attention also be given to what the potential output swing range will be under that condition.

When it comes to operating the INA128 with an even lower +4.3 V supply, TI cannot make any assurances about operation or performances at that supply level because it is outside the specifications. Most operational amplifiers and related INAs have some margin below their minimum specified operating voltage in which they are still functional. If you are setting up an experiment you could see if the INA128 still works under your supply condition. However, I would not recommend using the INA128 with a +4.3 V supply for any sort of production, high-volume application.

If your application can tolerate higher input current you may want to consider a low-voltage, single-supply instrumentation amplifier. An example of one is the INA321. It is good for a +2.7 V supply on the low end.

  • Thanks for your response. Would you recommend me any PIDP instrumentation with high CMRR and rail to rail output? Thanks

  • We do not have any PDIP op amps optimized for single supply. Consider INA333 as another single supply IA.
