LM231: May you explain me how to testify the non-linearity of LM231?

Part Number: LM231

I see on page 5  of  the datasheet of  LM231 that the definition of  Non-linearity of LM231 is as below.

'Non-linearity is defined as the deviation of fOUT from VIN × (10 kHz/−10 VDC) when the circuit has been trimmed for zero error at 10 Hz
and at 10 kHz, over the frequency range 1 Hz to 11 kHz. For the timing capacitor, CT, use NPO ceramic, Teflon®, or polystyrene.'

And I see that in  a typical application of LM231  that

I have a question now.

It seems that I have should first get the ideal result of fOUT using the above formula, then I compare it with the real measured value, so I could finally get the non-linearity of LM231.

If I want to measure the non-linearity of LM231, do I have to first select some values of Rs, Rl, Rt,Ct so I could get the follwed result  VIN × (10 kHz/−10 VDC)?

but  how do I get the  minus 10?

Is there any other convinient way or data in table fomat  I could use for getting the non-linearity of LM231?

Thank you!

  • Hi,

the "-" of "-10VDC" in the formula is a typo.

The formula is very simple. It shall yield 0Hz for VIN=0V and 10kHz for VIN=10V. So, the denominator "10VDC" is just for the proper scaling.

See also figure 14 of datasheet for a full understanding.
