OPA2673: Independent amps

Part Number: OPA2673
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2677, OPA2670, THS6301

To whom it may concern,

I wonder if the two 1/2 amplifiers in OPA2673 are designed only to operate in a differential fashion, or can I just use 1 of the 2 amplifiers, with the other one self biased?

And in general, how can I know whether other TI's products with two amplifiers in one package can operate individually?

Thank you

Weiyu

  • Hello Weiyu,

Yes it is not always obvious. It was a long time ago that I did this data sheet, but if you look at the application circuits and see single ended amplifier suggestions, it is probably independent op amps. Also, in the characterization curves, if they are specifically for diff I/O those are probably coupled channels used only differentially.

It would be better to say that on the front page. The first member of this family, the OPA2677, was definitely independent channels. The OPA2673 was a version that bootstrapped the output stage when disabled to be transparent in PLC apps to incoming large signals - that is the active off line control thing.
  • Incidentally, I was looking in my parametric database and it appears the OPA2670 is the only one in this family that is a coupled pair - also identified by the word "port" in the description.

There are much more recent dedicated xDSL drivers that are all coupled CFA pairs - like the THS6301. You can identify those if they talk about MTPR, like this thread.
