OPA551: OPA551 EOL plan

Part Number: OPA551
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA547

Hi Team,

I would like to confirm if OPA551 have EOL plan or not.

My customer has been using OPA551 op amp for more than ten years. At present, the board needs to be redesigned. Want to know if OPA551 can still be used. When will the production EOL?

Regards,

Amy

We have no plan at this time to EOL this device. Despite the fact that this device is old, the HPA Obsolescence Policy prevents us from simply ending a device out of convenience. As long as the device generates over $1k/year and/or we still have the processes to create/build the device, it will remain in our portfolio.

  • Hi,

I am the person that Amy helps me to ask this question, very thank for your replay.

Coule you introduce more details about you mentioned "HPA Obsolescence Plicy"

My old board use OPA551, now, I need re-design this board, so, I need check whether can keep use the OPA551.

My design use OPA551 as follower, use 24V as V+, use -15V as V-, input voltage range is -10V to 10V, output follow the input, but the output need be able to drive maxium 40mA current(10V output drive 250ohm resistor, the current is 40mA).

If convenience, could you recommend a better Amplifier, or, can I just keep use the OPA551, I really worry about this chip will EOL some day.

No one can guarantee that a part will never go obsolete, however TI takes these decisions seriously. If the decision is made, TI will give 1 year notice on discontinued products and another 6 months of shipping product.

Still, there is no plan to discontinue the OPA551 at this time.

The only part we have that's similar to this one is the OPA547, but that part has lower bandwidth, a slightly different pinout, and is not available in PDIP or SOIC packages. And the OPA547 is only 2-3 years newer than the OPA551.
