PGA309: Using PGA309DK Calibration Spreadsheet, Version 1.2.4 w/ PGA309EVM - USB

Part Number: PGA309

Hi there,

My team and I use the PGA309 in a high volume product, and we've ran into an issue with the calibration spreadsheet with the upgrade to Windows 10.

We currently use the PGA309EVM-USB to calibrate our units, however the spreadsheet we are using is indicated to be PGA309DK Calibration Spreadsheet, Version 1.2.4, (C) 2004 Texas Instruments.

Is there maybe a newer calibration spreadsheet for the PGA309 EVM-USB?

Thank you,

Torin

  • Hello Torin,

The PGA309DK Calibration Spreadsheet, (Version 1.2.4 from 2004) was part of the software of the legacy PGA309DK kit. This older evaluation and demonstration kit and it's software has been obsoleted (not been refreshed for a number of years).

The PGA309EVM-USB evaluation module is the engineering demonstration kit that is currently supported.

The legacy PGA309DK spreadsheet (and the PGA309DK software) is not compatible with the PGA309EVM-USB. The PGA309EVM-USB calibration algorithm does not require the PGA309DK Calibration Spreadsheet.  The PGA309EVM-USB contains more built-in functionality so that the end user experience is improved.  In addition, the iterative calibration algorithm of the PGA309EVM-USB results in better post-calibrated accuracy.

The PGA309EVM-USB software is available for download on the link below, Also find links for the hardware schematic and User Guide's information...

Please let me know if you have any questions,

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis

  • Hello Torin,

The PGA309EVM-USB software works with Windows 10, however some users have experienced issues with permissions on the PGA309EVM-USB software directories. Below are some detailed instructions to install the PGA309EVM-USB software on windows 10.

    1) Prior connecting the USB DAQ controller to the PC,  please verify all jumpers on the PGA309EVM and the USB DAQ board are in the correct position.  Specifically, please verify/confirm on the USB DAQ board that  JUMP3 is in the EE_ON position as shown below. Please see the image below, with the jumpers highlighted in red.

    2) When installing the software, it is important to run the installer executable with administrator privileges. If you previously installed the software, you could attempt to uninstall the software and reinstall as administrator.  To uninstall the software, navigate to Control Panel -> Uninstall or change program and right click on PGA309EVM-USB and click uninstall.

To install the software with administrator privileges, download the PGA309EVM-USB software from http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sboc320 and save the file on your PC.  Unzip the sboc320 folder, and navigate to the setup.exe file.  Right click on the setup.exe and select Run as administrator.  Follow the prompts to complete the installation

    3) After performing the software installation (on Windows 10), some users may need to manually modify directory permissions. The default directory for the PGA309EVM-USB data files is located in the root directory, under C:\Program Files (x86)\proj_PGA309EVM-USB. The following directories may need to add full control to the user, (if the user has no write permissions):

    :\Program Files (x86)\Proj_PGA309EVM-USB\Model_Files

    :\Program Files (x86)\Proj_PGA309EVM-USB\Pre_Cal_Files

    :\Program Files (x86)\Proj_PGA309EVM-USB\data

    :\Program Files (x86)\Proj_PGA309EVM-USB\Sensor_Emulator_Files

    :\Program Files (x86)\Proj_PGA309EVM-USB\EEPROM_Cal_Results

Navigate to these folders using windows explorer, select /right click the folder, on the menu select 'Properties' and  select 'Security' on top menu.  To Change Permissions, select the applicable User, click 'Edit' and check mark 'Allow Full Control'.  Press 'Apply' and 'OK' as shown on the menus below.

Please let me know if you have further questions regarding the PGA309EVM-USB GUI or hardware.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis

  • HI Torin,

In addition to the PGA309EVM-USB User Guide (Rev. B), the below power point presentation documents in detail examples to perform the calibration for the three possible output mode configurations of PGA309EVM-USB:  4-wire voltage output mode, 3-wire voltage output mode, and current output mode.
