OPA350: Discrepancy between macro-models: TINA-TI vs. Reference Designs

I have noticed some inconsistence in simulation results between macro models if they are downloaded from TI website (given in TINA-TI Reference Design) and if they are deployed directly from TINA-TI (Spice Macros).

Please find attached *.TSC file. 

Similar discrepancy can be noticed also at other OPA spice models as well as at other type of simulations.

  • The picture hasn't been uploaded correctly in the initial thread.  

  • Well the upper model is a 2019 update where an offset voltage was included - the models usually give a single number for that, not the spread in the specification. The 2019 model is more closely matching the 150uV 1sigma number as the typ in the datasheet, 

    The lower TINA library model is from 1999 and did not apparently attempt to add an offset voltage, use the most recent one.

    thanks on your explanation. 

    Actually I am using free version of TINA-TI Version 9.3.200.277 SF-TI, Build date: Donnerstag, 4. Oktober 2018, 19:41:54. 
    However it seems that TINA library models are not up to date, even thought the latest version of TINA-TI has been used.

    Can these integrated TINA library models be somehow updated?

  • Well actually Josko there are several facets to your question, 

    1.From the TINA (DesignSoft) side, they do not update model libraries in downlevel TINA versions(I am not sure how much effort put into updating them for the newest V12 releases, maybe new parts get in, updated models to older parts is less likely)

    2.From a TI perspective, there is  huge population of available TINA example designs across all the older part numbers - yes, you would hope as new model revisions (a big effort over the last 5 years) become available those older files would get updated - that is not apparently in the model update checklist. For example, I put out about 20 example TINA files in the THS4551 release, those all still using the original 2016 model while there have been two updates to the model since then. 

    3. So, what I spend some time doing is checking model versions when doing a sim for someone, right click on the symbol, enter macro then sometimes (but not always) there is date and update info at the top of the model listing. 

    4. And finally, there is the whole question of model accuracy. and again, I end up testing models for various things when updated. There is a non zero incidence of models not matching measured curves in the datasheet and/or shifting off from a more correct earlier model where some thing were improved, and apparently other things degraded in their match to silicon. 

    So in your case, 

    Take your older example TINA file

    Go to the product folder and drill down the latest TINA reference design version, open that

    Cut and paste that latest model into the older file and continue.
