PCM1863 EVM Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1865, PCM1863, PCM9211, PCM1863EVM

I am trying to record voice using the PCM1863 EVM with two microphones. I connect to the EVM with PurePath 2.1 on my PC but it says the EVM is connected as PCM1865. An FAE told me it’s because the PCM1863 plugin is missing. Anyway I could only download this tool on the website. So I placed the jumpers, set up the analog inputs and recorded obviously nothing but noise. Holding down the PCM9211 reset button (white one) takes out the noise. It makes me think the signal I got was from the optical in and analog is not being sent. I suspect the EVM is in Mode 0 described in the datasheet. What I don’t understand is both without the Y0 and with J8, J9 and J11 in place how the board tells if I want Mode 0 or Mode 2. Is there anything else I need to set to acquire analog signal and disable the optical inputs?

  • Hi,

We just released the latest version of the GUI that contains the plug-in for the PCM1863 so you might want to check and see if you have the latest version.

With either version, you can select the mode on the "EVM" tab. You should see a mode selection window on the mid-right side of the EVM block diagram. Once you select which mode you want, the block diagram will highlight which jumpers to install. The GUI will program the PCM9211 to select the correct I/O. Once the jumpers and programming are set, you should get good audio.

  • Somehow I never saw the mode selection window on my GUI. I had trouble downloading the PCM1863 GUI though from http://www.ti.com/tool/pcm1863evm. It says page is not found. How can I get it please?

  • The EVM is recognized as PCM1865 but it seems to be working fine now.

  • Thanks for the help!
