TAS5766MDCAEVM: Purepath Console 3 - TAS5766M - Hardware Checks fail

Part Number: TAS5766MDCAEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5766M

I have a Purpath Console Motherboard (AIP006G) along with a TAS5766MDCAEVM board that I'm trying to do some speaker tuning with.  I recently used this same board setup with the same PC for tuning another speaker.about 1 week ago.  It's been sitting in its ESD bag.  I got it out do do some tuning on another speaker and I'm getting 2 error messages when running the hardware checks.

Error 1:Download Unsuccessful --> when I hover the mouse over the message, the popup contains "Check Whether the EVM is connected properly and re-run"

Error 2: Unable to playback audio --> the popup message contains: "Please check that you have not accidentally muted the EVM (or reduced volume to a lower level than maximum). If neither is the case, you may try disconnect and reconnect the EVM or rebooting your computer to fix this issue.  If the issue persists, try with another EVM or post your issue on E2E. Please post a message on the E2E forums with your system configuration and any other relevant information.

The software connects to the TAS5766M EVM/Motherboard when starting the TS5766M app withing PPC3.  When running the hardware checks, it never loses the connection.

System:

* Windows 10, version 1803 (OS Build 17134.1130)

* I verified that the EVM shows up in device manager and the sound control panel.  I also verified the EVM is running: 2 channel, 16-bit, 48000Hz (DVD Quality)

It almost seems like the MCU on the motherboard got corrupted or something.  Is there a way to program it manually so the "Download" passes?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
David Smith

  • Hello David,

Please try the following debug steps:

    1. Plug in EVM, provide power source

    2. Open Device manager

    3. Under "Sound, video and game controllers" find "USB-AudioEVM"

    4. Right click this driver and "Uninstall Device"

    5. Unplug USB, re-plug in USB into computer, this will allow the correct driver to be recognized by the computer.

When working with different Audio EVMs the computer uses the wrong driver sometimes. This allows it to recognize the correct driver.

Please let me know if this fixes your issue.

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • Carolina,

Thank you for responding.  I tried your suggestion, but I get the same results when running the System Calibration / Hardware Checks

    • Download unsuccessful
    • Hardware ID is good
    • Audio sound card detected and unambiguous
    • Audio sound card sampling frequency is good
    • Audio record is successful
    • Unable to playback audio

I have also tried this on another computer that has PurePath Console installed and it has the same errors when doing the hardware check. I’ve rebooted both computers to see if that makes a difference – same results.

Do you have any other suggestions on how to get the EVM running?

    Best Regards,

    David Smith

  • Hey David,

Do you have any audio sources connected to the PPCMB (besides the USB)?

If so, please disconnect and retry hardware checks.

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • No, I don't have any other audio sources connected at this time. All I have is the PC's USB connection.

I had previously connected in an external I2S source, but I've disconnected it and sent the I2C commands to switch the source back to "AIC3262 as MCLK/I2S source". I found the I2C commands in forum post titled "How to configure PPCMB for external audio interfaces".

  • Hello David,

Can you add a picture of your setup?

Can you confirm this is what your Audio IO screen looks like?

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • I checked my audio I/O settings and they are set the same as above.  I even tried setting it to optical and then back to USB, but I get the same results.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    Dave Smith

  • Hey Dave,

Can you attach a picture of your setup?

I have combed through other E2Es and "Download Unsuccessful" has been linked to wrong I2C address (which I don't believe to be the issue here).

I was able to recreate your hardware checks, except the Hardware ID was incorrect.

    • Download unsuccessful
    • Hardware ID is good  Hardware ID is incorrect
    • Audio sound card detected and unambiguous
    • Audio sound card sampling frequency is good
    • Audio record is successful
    • Unable to playback audio

This was done by poor connection onto the motherboard, I don't believe that this is the issue you are experiencing, but for sanity check can you make sure the daughter card is properly mounted on the motherboard?

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • Carolina,

I checked the connection between the TAS5766MDCAEVM board and the PurePath Motherboard (AIP0006G) and I even re-seated the EVM board on the motherboard.  I still get the same results.

    Download unsuccessful

    Hardware ID is good

Audio sound card detected and unambiguous

Audio sound card sampling frequency is good

    audio record is successful

    unable to playback audio.

Do you have any other ideas?  Is there a non-PurePath PC application that can run more diagnostics?

If we can't get this figured out, can I RMA these boards to either get them repaired or replaced?

    Thanks,

    David Smith

  • Hello David,

Since you have tried different computers and we have gone through a series of tests I am inclined to agree with you that the motherboard has been corrupted.

Are you in contact with a TI FAE?

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • Yes, I have a local FAE - Lauren Baker.  I'll get in touch with her.

    Thanks,

    David Smith
