TPL5100: Similar IC, but I2C programmable

Hello there,

I am looking for an IC, that would act as I2C slave. The master MCU would write to its registers for how long he should hold some pin low/ high. After the time expires, the pin would toggle. In practice, this IC would have to hold the master MCU low for programmed amount of time. I find TPL5100 almost what I was looking for. The problem is that the timing programming is not precise enough. Also, If programmed using I/O, the I/O levels would change after the MCU goes reset by the TPL5100.

I would appreciate all help in finding the proper device.

You may be interested in another nanotimer device. TPL5010 or TPL5110 may be a good fit for your application. Both devices are resistor programmable with selectable timer intervals up to 2 hours.

We are currently developing a roadmap nanotimer device that will be I2C programmable. More information will be available at a later date.

Hi Lane,

For this resistor.based option I think I would need to add a digital potentiometer programmed via i2c. Would this work as desired?

Lane,
I think this wont work, because the resistance reading is done only once per power-up for those chips. So the timing cannot be changed during runtime. Is this correct?

You are correct, the resistance reading is only done once per power-up. You would need to power cycle the device to change the programmed time interval.

Hi Lane,
Thank you for answer. In that case I have 2 options: wait for that I2C based timer or grab an 8 lead MCU and implement the functionality there.
