CDCE949PERF-EVM: Cannot Program

I just purchased the cdce949perf-evm for a customer. According to the user guide, it is plug'n'play with the Clock Pro Software. I did read on other posts, that I need to first press 'Skip' to get to the main design screen and then I am able to program the board. However, I never receive the Green connection LED on the GUI. The quick start mentions drivers for the board, but I did not see where those are located, and the user guide mentions a CD, which we did not receive.

Can you point me to the correct drivers for the PERF board, not the PROGRAMMING board?

Hi Tony,

Unfortunately there are no new drivers for an operating system later than WinXP. However a WinXP machine will work.

I receive this when the board is plugged in. Do you know what jumpers I need to connect?

Hi Tony,

From page 16 of CDCE949 datasheet:

Operation mode selection for pin 22/23 (6)
SPICON:
0 – serial programming interface SDA (pin 23) and SCL (pin 22)
1 – control pins S1 (pin 23) and S2 (pin 22)

(6) Selection of control-pins is effective only if written into the EEPROM. Once written into the EEPROM, the serial programming pins are no longer available. However, if VDDOUT is forced to GND, the two control-pins, S1 and S2, temporally act as serial programming pins (SDA/SCL), and the two slave receiver address bits are reset to A0 = 0 and A1 = 0.

So you can see for the purpose of programming you'll want SPICON = 0 so that pin 22/23 allow the serial programming interface.

Based on my reading of the EVM user guide... as per the note below jumpering J45 can ground out VDDOUT.

Hi Timothy,

I am now able to connect to the board. I'm not sure if it mattered, but I ran the software in compatibility mode for Windows XP. Also, the board did not come with one of the default jumpers. Luckily we ordered two boards and I took one of them to put on J33 and now it shows a connection. Thank you for your help.

Hi Tony,

Glad to hear it is working. Just to confirm, which operating system are you using (in which you are running compatibility mode for XP?)

I think I did see something about Vista still working in some documentation... however I think that came in 32 and 64 bit flavors, so it may be only the 32-bit version that works.

I am in Windows 10, but I turned off compatibility mode and it still works.

Well thanks for letting me know Tony. All reports I've had to date is the due to the driver issues, the Clock Pro wouldn't work in Win10 - even with compatibility mode. Using WinXP (or Vista perhaps) is the only known working solution.

And my understanding is you didn't do anything special beyond installing the software to make it work.

That is correct. I just installed the ClockPro software from https://www.ti.com/tool/CDCE949PERF-EVM#tech-docs and did not do any driver installations. It works with Windows 10 NOT using compatibility mode
