LMX2572EVM: power on behavior

Part Number: LMX2572EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2572

I'm testing the LMX2572EVM for use as a local oscillator (sinewave output). I'm using the TICSpro to interface with it along with the Reference Pro provided and all but one thing is going well. The problem is how the 2572 is responding to a hard restart. When I return power to the Reference and 2572 boards, I have no PLL and no RFOutAP.

If the LMX2572EVM is going to function as we need it then I need to find a way to have it return to the same configuration/output it was set to before losing power. The environment it will be in is subject to loss of power, and the personnel available to restore power can't be expected to connect via TICSpro to reload a configuration.

Please any help is appreciated. I don't have any background in programming languages so I'm limited to using the GUI to get this done. If that won't suffice then a simple point in the right direction would also help.

Thank you ahead of time.

Chad

  • Hi Chad,

The chip as well as the board do not have memory, so after losing power, all the written register values will be gone. In addition, a Vcc power up will trigger an internal reset. So when the power is resumed, we need to program the chip again.

How long will the power loss be lasting? LMX2572 consumes less than 100mA, maybe you can add a rechargeable battery to sustain the operation when there is a power loss.

  • Thank you Noel,

I was mistaken and thought the registry values were stored on the chip. Thank you for clearing that up, I'm working on a battery backup today. I'm shooting for at least 24Hrs of runtime on it so I don't think it will be a problem.

Thank you for saving me time.
