LMK00304: Ultra small RF to 1000base-CX LVDS transmitter

Part Number: LMK00304
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVDS100, ONET8531T

I need to take an RF input and convert it to a 1000base-cx LVDS output in as small of a form factor as possible.  Bare die preferred, small SMT package OK.

  • Hello,

Some additional information would help to bound this solution.

If I understand correctly you are requesting a device to convert from single ended AC coupled RF signal to LVDS output?

What frequency operation do you require?

Are there any specific noise requirements on the LVDS output signal?

    Regards,

  • Thank you Liam,

If I understand correctly you are requesting a device to convert from single ended AC coupled RF signal to LVDS output? Your understanding is correct.

What frequency operation do you require?  The LVDS output requirement is 1000Base-CX compliant (1.25 Gbps) so I am thinking I need ~2 GHz of RF bandwidth.

Are there any specific noise requirements on the LVDS output signal?  Yes, BER<1E-6 verified with OOK modulated bit stream at 1.25 Gbps and minimum extinction ration of 15 dB.  I believe my customer is using 8B10B encoding.

My amateur approach at the moment is to use a TI ONET8531T limiting trans-impedance amplifier putting out CML.  I think this is overkill especially since I am concerned about size.  Then I would follow this up with a SN65LVDS100 to convert CML to LVDS.  Can you recommend a less amateur approach?

  • Hello Mark,

Maybe consider one of TI universal buffers with configurable outputs such as

These are also state of the art as far as additive noise performance.

    Regards,

  • Excellent suggestion, I will try it out.  Thanks much Liam Keese!
