TPL5110-Q1: How to get time interval of mid value between the number in the table

Part Number: TPL5110-Q1

Hi all,

I got a question of TPL5110-Q1 how to set the time interval of mid value between two values in the lookup table, e.g. 130ms. I don't think this is feasible but can you tell me if this is feasible using this device?

Also, if possible, can you tell me why this device has such a quantized/discrete value of time interval? Is this because the device counts the clock of low-frequency oscillator of 10Hz?

It'd be very helpful if you can share the complete look-up table of time interval which extends Table 3 and 4 in the datasheet.

Regards,
RYO

  • Hi RYO,

130ms is not one of the selectable time intervals.

Yes, there quantized time intervals are multiples of 100ms.

You can use equations 2 and 3 to determine the time interval. Equation 2 provides guidance on selecting the external resistor, and equation 3 is used to calculate the quantized time interval. I will check internally for the list of time intervals.

    Kind regards,
    Lane

  • Hi Lane,

Thanks for your reply. I have an additional question in order to minimize quantization error. If you put a resistor between the list value (600ohm for example), which period does the device take (100ms or 200ms)? Or is the threshold 750ohm in this example (<750ohm then 100ms, otherwise 200ms)?

    Regards,
    RYO

  • Hi RYO,

I'm not certain of the threshold for the intervals. For intervals of 1s or longer, we see that equation 3 uses an INT() function, indicating that time interval may be rounded down. I would recommend to use set the resistor precisely using parallel 1% resistors for best accuracy. You might test with the EVM to determine to check the threshold between between intervals.

    Kind regards,
    Lane
