ADS8681EVM-PDK: How to connect the ADC EVM to the DSP board?

Part Number: ADS8681EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEVM6678, ADS8681

hello,

I am searching for a DSP and ADC EVM for demodulating analog signals in real time in the lab. For the DSP development board I would like to use the TMDSEVM6678EVM, which has an 80-pin expansion header that should allow the ADC to be connected.

For the ADC, a 14Bit resolution and a 2MSPS sample rate is desirable. I think the ADS8681EVM-PDK definitely meets my requirements, but this ADC EVM does not seem to connect directly to the DSP board.  The interface of PHI controller seems to be 60-pin. Should I buy an additional expansion board. Or maybe you can suggest me another ADC EVM that can be connected to the DSP board.

Thanks for the help.

  • Hi Lei,

We do not have a 'direct connection' from the ADS8681EVM-PDK to the TMDSEVM6678 development board.  On the ADS8681EVM, there are test points that you can wire into with fly wires from the DSP development board.  You'll need to accommodate power and ground connections as well - ground at a minimum so that the board's are referenced to the same potential.  The PHI board is our 'evaluation platform' for the ADS8681, it is not directly compatible with the DSP evaluation board.

  • Hi Tom,

Thank you for your reply, I would like to ask if TI provides ADC EVMs with similar performance that can be connected to DSP development boards?

  • Hi Lei,

At one point we did support an EVM platform that was compatible with the TMS320C6711 and the TMS320C5509 DSP Starter Kits but that setup was discontinued.  The closest this we have available today supports the TMDS64GPEVM or TMDS243GPEVM.  Here is a link: https://www.ti.com/tool/ADC-PHI-PRU-EVM for some of the details.
