ADS131A04: Maximum current allowed on analog inputs in AC coupled design

Part Number: ADS131A04

Hi,

We have an AC coupled design that normally inputs an audio signal that is no more than 4 volts peak-peak. On occasion there may be a large signal that could reach an amplitude of 15 volts peak-peak. The analog side of the converter is operating at 5 volts. The data sheet specifies that the absolute maximum continuous input current should be no more that +/- 10 ma. If we can guaranteed that the peak instantaneous current is no greater that +/- 7.5 ma, though our filtering, and these high signal events only occur infrequently and for a short duration, a fraction of a second, do we need over voltage protection? If we did use over voltage protection we were thinking of using dual schottky diodes, before or in the filter, to assure that we never exceed the -0.3 and +5.3 volts specified as the absolute maximum analog input voltage.

Thank You,

Dan
