DAC34H84EVM: Is this DAC board is Compatible with HPC or LPC of Xilinx FPGA Boards? or Which FMC-DAC-adapter needed ?

Part Number: DAC34H84EVM

Hello

I have been looking for DAC for my system design and found out your post at

e2e.ti.com/.../167176

There seem to be someone use the ML605 Xilinx FPGA with DAC34H84EVM board. I want to use ZC706 HPC connection with DAC34H84EVM , which FMC-DAC-adapter is needed to use?

or Is there any DAC that are good fit on Xilinx FPGA with FMC-DAC-adapter?

please let me know

Thanks and regards

Imran Sheikh

  • Hi Imran Sheikh,

Yes, you will need the FMC-DAC-adapter in order to interface the physical connector to the FMC connector of the TSW14J10EVM. The TSW14J10EVM is required for interfacing any ADC/DAC EVM with the ZC706 due to the FPGA being programmed via JTAG.

I know that we have tested the DAC38J84EVM family (native FMC connector) with the ZC706, and have the ability to start prototyping right away. However, I would ensure that the DAC fits your specifications before hand.

    Regards,

    Dan
  • Imran,

A little clarification. The FMC-DAC adapter is used to interface our non-JESD DAC's, like the DAC34H84EVM, to a FPGA board that uses a FMC connector. You will not need the TSW14J10EVM. The TSW14J10EVM board allows customers to interface our JESD DAC EVM's to the FMC connector on certain Xilinx boards and operate our HSDC Pro GUI. As far as interfacing to a ZC706, you will need to look at the schematics of all three boards to verify this will work. The FMC-DAC adapter and DAC34H84EVM schematics are attached. You will need to contact Xilinx regarding the schematic for the ZC706.

  • Hello Jim
Can I program DAC34H84EVM without using DAC34H84EVM software control? Is there any external SPI interfacing pins available on DAC34H84EVM board? , so that i can program using FPGA .
  • Imran,

You can remove jumpers JP6, JP9, JP12 and JP13 to disconnect the FTDI from the DAC SPI pins and use the header pins to bring in an external SPI. But this option is not available for the CDCE62005.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hello Jim
    Thanks for the clarification
one more thing i want to know about CDCE62005.
    1) CDCE IC providing clock to DAC through DACCLK(SH1), DACCLKC(SH1) but DAC having clock input from DACCLK(SH3),DACCLKC(SH3) i didn't find the DACCLK(SH1), DACCLKC(SH1) in schematic DAC34H8XEVM-SCH_C pdf. Is it both are same?
    2) can i supply external clock to DAC from FPGA through pins J22(DACCLK2_C) and J23(DACCLK2) with out using clock from CDCE62005?

    Thanks and Regards

  • One more thing i wanted to know
What does FIFO_OSTR(SH4) pins used for? what really it does? why it is available on DAC?
