AFE5818EVM: HMC-DAQ GUI reset and initialize error

Part Number: AFE5818EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5818,

Both my errors and my steps are identical to this related issue:

"I wanted to test the ADC. I connected the board to TSW1400EVM and installed both of the software packages.

But I got this error

AFE5818EVM: HMC DAQ-GUI error: "Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE581x_ADC.txt" is missing so the device is not initialized properly.

Following the suggestion of another user in the forum I found the files inside a folder in this path and copied them out.

But I got another error when I tried to initialize the device

OOPS!

File Not Found

File Name Empty.

Also my GUI does not have the DUT reset bottom that is mentioned in the user guide."

Additionally, the proposed solution from this thread is to install an updated version of the "High Speed Data Converter pro" software, the issue is that I already have the latest version installed (v5.00), so I am unsure where to go from here.

  • For more information: I have made sure to run the HSDCPro software first, as I read that starting the HMC DAC-GUI software first can lead to errors.

I have also run the FTDI FT Prog software, images attached:

One thing that sticks out to me is that the second image has the product description listed as 'AFE58JD18vBEVM' where in some other images I've seen the 'vB' as 'vC' instead. I can confirm that my AFE5818EVM is marked as a Rev C board, so I am unsure what this implies.

EDIT: I have re-programmed the FTDI to be "AFE5818vCEVM", as per the related question. I am now left with this error when initializing the device:

"At this point in time, the current configuration of the device is not supported by the GUI."

"(Error 5001 occurred at Specified Register or Block cannot be find in Register map tree.

Source: Main Engine - Identify Register Details.vi

This error code is undefined. Undefined errors might occur for a number of reasons. For example, no one has provided a description for the code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.

Additionally, undefined error codes might occur because the error relates to a third-party object, such as the operating system or ActiveX. For these third-party errors, you might be able to obtain a description of the error by searching the Web for the error code (5001) or for its hexadecimal representation (0x00001389).)"

It is at this point that the advice in the related question ends.

EDIT 2: After searching the forums for more information on this new bug I found this post: https://e2e.ti.com/support/data-converters/f/73/t/718250?AFE5818EVM-HMC-DAQ-GUI-error-for-AFE5818EVM-TSW1400

The solution in this post is to raise the available amperage of the supply voltage to 3A. Implementing this ended up fixed my second problem. I would recommend that TI should change the information in their documentation online for setting up the AFE5818EVM with the TSW1400, as the documentation specifically tells the user to set the supply voltages to 2A.
