AFE5818EVM: HMC-DAQ GUI reset and initialize error

Part Number: AFE5818EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5818

I wanted to test the ADC. I connected the board to TSW1400EVM and installef bothe softwares

But  I got this error

AFE5818EVM: HMC DAQ-GUI error: "Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE581x_ADC.txt" is missing so the device is not initialized properly.

Following the suggestion of another user in the forum I found the files inside a folder in this path and copied them out.

But i got another error when I tried to initialize the device

OOPS!

File Not Found

File Name Empty.

Also my gui does not have the DUT reset bottom that is mentioned in the user guid.

  • Dear Chen,

I never used FTDI - FT_Prog  and unlike this post, in my case, HMC-DAQ GUI showed HW Connected.

I got the same error as this post, and it doesn't seem to be resolved.

  • Hi Mehran,

Could you please download the free FT_Prog from the following:

    ft-prog.software.informer.com/.../

After that first, please connect your EVM board's USB to your PC's USB

then after you open and run this program one by one,

FT_Prog can show you what "Device Chip" is programmed in your EVM board's FTDI chip.

For example, it may show "AFE58JD18vBEVM" or closer, then

we need to re-program it to be "AFE5818vCEVM" in order to make the GUI running correctly.

attached is the  file used for FT_Prog loading and used for your EVM.

  • Hi Chen,

I applied the template and program the device, and it showed a successful write. but in HSDC Pro I get the JTAG_CHAIN_BROKEN_ERROR error after selecting AFE5818 board and trying to update firmware . and then in HMC_DAQ GUI get the same error as before.

    Thank you

  • Hi Mehran,

After that please turn off both hardware AFE5818EVM board and TSW1400EVM

also please turn off all the software.

Also disconnect both USB connectors to your PC.

Then re-connect them back to your PC including both hardware and software.

Re-run these HMC-DAQ GUI and High Speed data Converter Pro again.

Hopefully everything can be reset and running correctly.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

I restarted everything and it started working, but at the end I got these errors

(Error 5001 occurred at Specified Register or Block cannot be find in Register map tree.

Source: Main Engine - Identify Register Details.vi

This error code is undefined. Undefined errors might occur for a number of reasons. For example, no one has provided a description for the code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.

Additionally, undefined error codes might occur because the error relates to a third-party object, such as the operating system or ActiveX. For these third-party errors, you might be able to obtain a description of the error by searching the Web for the error code (5001) or for its hexadecimal representation (0x00001389).)

    Thank you,

    Mehran

  • Hi Mehran,

When you can turn off your PC and power-off both AFE5818EVM and TSW1400EVM

(including disconnect their USB connections and re-connect them back to PC after).

If all the them still have problem to let the GUI up and running,

then you may need to re-install HMC-DAC GUI and High Speed Data Converter Pro to your PC again.

However before you are going to do so, you need to dis-install both of them in advance.

If not, both softwares will not be allowed to do.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

I uninstalled and re-installed everything still the same problem. Also, I noticed that after downloading the firmware none of the USER_LEDs are on. the User manual says D5 must be on and D6 must be off.

    Thank you,

    Mehran

  • Thank Mehran,

Looks like TSW1400EVM is not recognized by your PC

either hardware (maybe by USB) or software issue.

The LED D5 must be on first, before you are running HMC-DAC GUI after that.

We need to look into it and let you know again.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

Only C87 led turns on when I turned the switched ON on the board.  The rest is off even after the HSDC Pro (v5.00) shows the device is connected:

the software recognizes the board as K1292917-TSW1400:

and the status changed to HW connected after I hit ok and get the no FWmessage

This is the board information I can see with FD_Prog

Both software installations went without a problem the same it is shown in the user manuals. The only difference was that with HSDC Pro, the NI 2014 version was installed (manual mentioned 2010)  and after that with  HMC-DAQ GUI, the  NI 2010  was installed.

    Thank you,

    Mehran

  • Hi Mehran,

For your question about TSW1400EVM (hardware),

you need to carefully make sure TSW1400EVM's J3 (ADC_INTERFACE) connector

is firmly connected to AFE5818EVM's connector (very important).

Make sure both of them have good contact to each others.

Also make sure SW7=ON all the time.

Also make sure J12 (+5V_IN) must be connected to +5V power supply on your side.

When you run High Speed Dataq Converter Pro (software of TSW1400)

after you click on "OK" button

and after you must choose "AFE5818" inside the following list shown as below:

    After you following the list,

you will see D6 (should be off) and D5 (should be ON).

This is to confirm with you that TSW1400EVM is ready to be used.

If not (meaning when D5 still =off) , then TSW1400EVM is not ready to capture data at all.

    Please check it again.

One more questions: from your question, you mentioned about C87,

    what is this coming from?

    Thank you!

Have a very wonderful Merry Christmas day!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Dear Chen,

I checked all the connections and switches that you mentioned.

After Selectin AFE5818 from the list , a pop up question asks if I want to update the firmware. I clicked  Yes and after downloading the firmware te HMC-DAQ GUI was started within HSDC Pro , right at this time I notice all LEDs blined very shortly. But all lights remain OFF . In the HMC-DAQ GUI I did the DUT RESET and clicked on initialezed and got the errors that I mentioned n my previous messages.

So should the LEDs turn on after initializing on HMC-DAQ GUI or before that?

the picture shows how far I am

after clicking ok this errors pooped up:

regarding the C87, its the LED that turns on when the board is connected to power and SW7 is ON :

    Thank you,

    Mehran

  • Hi Mehran,

    How are you?

Yes, right now the most important condition you can see from using TSW1400EVM

is the LEDs must working correctly.

So please check all the jumpers are connected correctly or not.

Please follow the User's Guide page 31, page 33 and page 34.

On page 34 statement, looks like you are using Configuration 3:

so please look at Figure 50 (on Page 34) also you can verify them on Page 31, Figure 48.

Please notice that: J37 Should be Disconnected!

after that please push the button on S2 EVM's (LMK_RST) button.

    This is important.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Dear Chen,

I checked the jumpers carefully. they are matched to the configuration 3 and figure 48. Then push the LMK_RST.

Still got the same errors in the software and all LEDs are off on TW1400EVM.

Thank you and happy new year.

    Mehran

  • Hi Mehran,

Thank you for letting us know more details.

Could you please try the following different setting (by using On-board XTAL OSC) as follows:

On page 34 statement, please follow Configuration 1.

so on the Figure 50, please follow Configuration 1 by:

    Connect J36, J37, and J31 jumpers.

    Disconnect J34 jumper.

In this case, you will be using 40MHz as your input Clock (On-board).

And then after that, please re-start your whole test set up (including hardware and software both).

Hope this time you can make it running.

    Thank you very much again!

    Happy New Year to you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

I changed the jumpers to configuration 1 and did LMK_RST and DUT_reset. clicked on initialize HMC-DAQ GUI and got the same errors as before. all LEDs on TSW1400 are still off.

    Thank you,

    Mehran

  • Hi Mehran,

Please try to download the newest software

High Speed Data Converter pro v5

    from TI website:

before loading this new software, please uninstall the older software first.

    www.ti.com/.../DATACONVERTERPRO-SW

    Thank you!

    Have a nice day!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Mehran,

When you are connecting both AFE5818EVM and TSW1400 Boards

by using USB cables to your computer and using FTDI (FT Prog) to

confirm they are connected correctly to your PC (very important

before you are running GUIs for all the registers and data).

Please check with the followings are correct or not for your settings:

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

my FTDI (FT Prog) information matches the figures in your last post.

I reinstall the HSDC pro v5 from the link you provided. this time after hitting OK to update the firmware I got this error

if I click ok, it will open the HMC DAQ-GUI  but I got the same errors as before and all the LEDs on TSW1400 are still off.

    Thanks,

    Mehran

  • AFE5818.ini

    Hi,

Please copy into the attached file into your hard disk of your PC's following directory:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\High Speed Data Converter Pro_v5.10\1400 Details\ADC files

And please re-turn off all the software if you have run.

And after that re-run your whole system again.

Then it should work again for you.

    Thank you!
