Hello,

I am a postgraduate, I'm hoping to use DMD as a controllable "pinhole array" in a confocal measurement system, as a subsitute for area-scan. Instead of projection lens, I will use a objective lens to focus the light reflected from the ON pixels to the sample. The basic structure is similar to the picture, also similar to a light-field camera.

I'm having some confuse choosing the DMD, especially the DLP engine. For example, what is the difference between "DLP LightCrafter 6500 EVM" and "DLP 9500"? 

With respect to the patterns on DMD, the detection of corresponding pattern on the CCD is a major problem for me, can you recommend a DLP that can realize my design purpose? 

Also, are there any documents offering reference to the system optical design?

    Hello Cathy,

    The DLP9500 is a DMD.  The DMD EVM is a DLPLCR95EVM that pairs with a DLPLCRC410EVM.  This system is a binary controller (FPGA) and can be very fast.  The demonstration GUI shows how patterns can be displayed, but to realize the speed you will likely need will require FPGA development.

    The "DLP LightCrafter 6500 EVM" is the DLPLCR65EVM which is a DMD EVM that attaches to the single DLPC900 controller EVM (DLPLCRC900EVM).  The DLPC900 controller is an ASIC based system that can prestore patterns into memory and display them on the DMD.

    Depending on your requirements and how much development you can put into it will help determine the device that will work for your application.

    Can you describe your requirements - Pattern rate, input/output triggers, binary vs grayscale patterns.
