DLPLCR4500EVM: DLPLCR4500EVM and 3D Printer

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00293, DLP4500

Dear Gentlemen,

Recently I brought DLPLCR4500EVM, my order number is 1493935, I received this product safely no damage.

Now I need some help about how to use in this part in 3d Printer, Also can you explain us How to connect Motor, limit switch and LCD Display?

Which port and what is setting required in 3d printer?

Please its humble request to help me.

Thanks in Advance.

Best Regards,

Chirag Chodvadiya

  • Hi Chirag,

Welcome to the DLP Forums and thank you for your questions. Everything you need to use the Lightcrafter 4500 is described here:
    www.ti.com/.../TIDA-00293

There are design files, schematics, mechanical designs, etc. Please let us know if you have any further questions once you've read through that documentation.

  • Hello paul,

Thank You for givve en your valuable time.

I checked your attache link and checked all file but i can not understand with cable assembly drawing and still i can not solve my problem of connect stepper motor, limit switch and LCD Display with DLPLCR4500EVM.

Plese Paul explain me simple way. so we will go ahead with our project.

    thanks in advance

  • Hello paul,

What is BeagleBone MSTP Cape? and where will we buy? and any other option instead of using another one.

    thanks

    regards,
    chirag
  • Hi Chirag,

The Beaglebone MSTP cape is a PCB that had the stepper motor drivers for the 3d printing translation stage. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced so you'll have to make it yourself. The design is available on the TIDA-00293 page.

Alternately, you could design your own 3D printer motor controller.

As far as your earlier question regarding connecting all the pieces together, have you seen this document?
    www.ti.com/.../tidra57.pdf

It describes all the connections and which connectors they go to for each device.

    -Paul
  • Hello Paul,

    How can I make it?

If I am thinking alternative design then how to set with lightcraft 4500?

Please Paul suggest some thing easy way to connect motor and limit switch.

    Best regards

    Chirag

  • Hi Chirag,

I would recommend that you work with a third party to help you with your effort. They'll have the experience needed to take the files we've provided online and turn them into a finished product. Choosing a local PCB fabricator would be your best route.

All of the cable assembly documents can be found here: www.ti.com/.../tidra63

  • Can you send me details who was making begelbone mstp cap so I will contact them.

And also need luminous for short wave length ??
  • Here is the information regarding the MSTP cape: elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBone_MSTP

Not sure what you mean by luminous for short wavelength. Can you describe in greater detail?

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • Hello Paul,

I am asking about Exposer LED light change. Is it necessary to change exposure led light change for 3d printer?

Also I have one question about can I use reprap Discount smart controller 2004 lcd blue light instead of pololu 1219.  And its detail is below link:

    http://reprap.org/wiki/RepRapDiscount_Smart_Controller

    thanks in advance

  • As is described in the 3D printer reference design, a change in LED is required. We went to a 420nm LED which is the shortest wavelength supported by the DLP4500 and still warrantied by TI. There are customers using shorter wavelength LEDs like 405nm but that is outside the operating conditions of the DLP4500 at the power levels typically required by 3D printing. Which wavelength you choose and how much power is going to be up to you.

I can't comment on the RepRap controller, I don't know anything about it.

  • Hello Paul,

I am try to making beagolbone MSTP cape. And after i will start to assemble to 3d printer machine. thanks for support me. if any option against beagolbone mstp cape replace.

I have one more question about DLP LightCrafter 6500. if i want to buy this lightcrafter for 3d printer then what is design and bom required. please let us know. what is difference between lightcrafter 4500 and 6500 for 3d printer.

    thanks in advance.

  • Hi Chirag,

We do not have an example 3D printer design for the Lightcrafter 6500. The Lightcrafter 6500 is an electronics only evaluation module, you would have to supply your own optical engine and design a 3D printer for it. In general, for 3D printing, a higher resolution DMD will give you higher resolution printing and a larger build area.

    I hope that helps,
    Paul
  • How can i build optical engine? any idea about this project.
  • Hi Chirag,

I would recommend that you get in touch with one of the companies from our design network. They will be able to help you with the areas you are asking about, particularly electronics and optics. Look for companies in the below page who have optical modules for the DLP6500.

  • Hello paul,

Now we are working with lightcraft 4500 . i have question about what is distance maintain between Resin tank and light craft ? what is maximum resin tank size cover by dlp lightcraft 4500?

    thanks
  • Hi Chirag,

Please see the mechanical design files to answer your question: www.ti.com/.../tidra64

In that ZIP file you'll find a schematic for the overall printer, which will tell you how far apart the LCr4500 has to be from the resin as well as how big the print area is.

  • Hello Paul,

Now i am changing blue led replacement stage, i opened that part but i can not understand how to set 420 nm LED in the socket? can you explain me ?

also what is dimension need of 5592 sheet?

    thanks in advance.

    regards,
  • Hi Chirag,

I believe there are some documents in the design files which show you how to create a new PCB for the blue LED and fit it into the socket.

Unfortunately, it seems that the optics engine has changed a bit since that design was created, so the dimensions are not exactly correct. I recommend that you take some measurements and design a new PCB to hold the LED in the socket.

Again, all the design documents, user's guides, etc. are available here: www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00293.

    Best,
    Paul
  • Hi Paul,

As per your last replay I could not find how to make new PCB board for blue led light. and can you more help me who is making this type of pcb. because in india i don't think any one is making.

still i am facing problem of beaglebone mstp cape. then another problem is create.

i want to full details about above problem.

    thanks in advance
  • Hi Chirag,

I would like to kindly recommend that you find some local experts who will be able to help you work through getting this design up and running. Unfortunately I cannot assist with your request on finding someone to make that PCB, all I can do is show you where the design files are.

Here is a thread discussing the blue LED board issue: e2e.ti.com/.../602934

    -Paul
  • Hi Paul,

Why need to change blue led in dlplcr4500evm?

What is main purpose of modification?

    -Chirag
  • Hi Chirag,

In order to cure the resin, a high energy light is needed. Switching from a standard blue LED to a shorter wavelength LED provides additional energy to cure the resin. Most 3D printers use UV light to do this.
