Hey Expert,

I am looking for an USB component TUSB321, can you help clarify the application of this chip and USB nego mechanism when plugging a PD device with 9W consumption, thanks for support.

Hi Jim,

TUSB321 is a CC controller and should be used for application that do not require greater than 15W of power over the USB-C connector. Please refer tot eh FAQ linked below for more details.

When a PD controller is connected USB-C termination is presented but no PD messaging will occur.

Hey Malik,

For type-C design, should system and device both need USB-c controller or USB-C PD controller?
If we have a 9W USB-C dongle for use, is type-c 5A/15W is good enough to use but no need to have PD?
If we have spec that 7.5W for each USB-A port, should I have BC1.2 controller additionally in my circuit?

Hi Jim,

Either a PD controller or CC controller should be used, not both. Correct CC controllers can support this 9W USB-C dongle. IF BC1.2 is needed then additional controller will be needed.
