TUSB1042I: Toggling CTL0 on TUSB1042I

Part Number: TUSB1042I

Datasheet Section 8.4.1. states... "The USB PD controller upon detecting no device attached to Type-C port or USB3.1 operation not required by attached device must take TUSB1042I out of USB3.1 mode by transitioning the CTL0 pin from L to H and back to L."

What are the consequences of not transitioning the CTL0 pin from L to H and back to L?  Is it just wasting power or will it prevent future connections?

  • Hi,

No toggling of CTL0 may cause issues. If PD controller cannot drive High (only drive Low) and goes into a High Z state then a pull-up resistor can be used to set default mode. PD controller can take some time before disabling TUSB1042I though CTL0. This function can also be done through I2C by writing to register 0x0A.
