SN65HVD1050-Q1: Reference voltage pin to connect with Vcc?

Genius 14899 points
Part Number: SN65HVD1050-Q1

Hi Experts,

Good day. Client would like to use an alternative part.

To replace an existing CAN driver in a product, SN65HVD1050QDRQ1 is a good candidate, however the current part has pin 5 connected to Vcc. The datasheet for SN65HVD1050QDRQ1 shows pin 5 as Vref with an equivalent circuit showing 2k pull up and 2k pull down. Is is okay to connect Vref to Vcc on SN65HVD1050QDRQ1?

Thank you.

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi Archie,

I would not recommend this configuration, as 5V applied to Vref will cause a unnecessary leakage path on this supply line. Instead, would a device like TCAN1057A be suitable? This device has a no connect (NC) for pin 5 so having 5V applied here would have no impact on the device and present no load the supply. If Silent mode is not needed, TCAN1044A (Standby version) may also be used.

Let me know if this recommendation works and if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
