TUSB215-Q1: performance difference after replacing tusb217-q1

Part Number: TUSB215-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB217-Q1, , TUSB217, TUSB215

Hi,
We used to use tusb217-q1, but for some reasons, we now replace it with tusb215-q1. However, the following problems occur when using tusb215-q1. Please analyze what causes the abnormality. Thanks!
Pre-channel cable length=1/2/3/4 metres which is connected to the automobile host.
1.Products using tusb215-q1,when Post-channel cable length="C to A" adapter cable(15cm)+1m "non-original" phone cable,Carlife recognition failed, Carplay recognition succeeded.
2.Products using tusb215-q1,when Post-channel cable length="C to A" adapter cable(15cm)+1m "original" phone cable,Carlife and Carplay recognition succeeded.
3.Products using tusb215-q1,when Post-channel cable length=1m "C to C" phone cable,Carlife and Carplay recognition succeeded.
4.However, products using tusb217-q1 performs well with all types of cable.

Why are the 1~3 situations different?
Why do tusb217-q1 and tusb215-q1 behave differently?

This matter is very urgent. Please help us deal with it as soon as possible. Thank you for your support!

  • Hi Huamu,

These devices are not drop-in compatible, you can see that the RX_SEN on TUSB217-Q1 becomes DC_BOOST on TUSB215-Q1.  Also BOOST on TUSB217-Q1 becomes EQ on TUSB215-Q1 are different between the two devices.  I would recommend installing a resistor on EQ since it is floating and at max setting.

  • Hi JMMN,

    Thank you for your reply!

We have tried to install a resistor on EQ before, but the test effect is not good.

I would like to ask, TUSB215-Q1 in this configuration (EQ = level 3, DC_BOOST = low), what is the maximum communication length of the cable in the ideal state?

    Thanks & Best regards!

  • Hello Huamu,

Your TUSB217 setup has boost (both AC and DC) set to level 2, but TUSB215 has AC boost (EQ) at level 3 and DC_BOOST at low.  I would try to set the TUSB215 levels closer to the TUSB217 levels, particularly AC boost should be lower and DC boost should be higher.  Please note that CDP mode is enabled on TUSB215 and could impact device function.

    Regards,

    JMMN
