TPD6S300: TPD6S300

Hello,

Would you be able to give more information on the Type-C port this device is being used in? Specifically why they are wanting to implement a protection device like the TPD6S300 if there is no CC controller? 

We just want to use it on a regular type C for the computer without ThunderBolt. From the Intel guideline, the CC1/CC2 connect to the Thunderbolt PD, but we are not using Thunderbolt so no PD is needed. so right now, we only have C_CC1 and C-CC2 connect to the CC1 and CC2 of the USB C.

There are other times when a PD controller is needed, not just for Thunderbolt. For example, if you want to support >5V, you will need a USB Type-C PD controller. If you want to support alternate modes like DisplayPort, you will need a USB Type-C PD controller. 

If you could share the entire Type-C requirements that would be helpful

we only support 5V for USB C. We want to have USB 3.0 speed on USB-C and running DisplayPort in the USB Type-C port too. 

is there a reason why we need the PD controller if we running DisplayPort?

This make sense. Just want to confirm, The C_CC1 and C_CC2 of the TDP6S300 will go to the CC1/CC2 of the USB Type C connector. The CC1/CC2 of TDP6S300  will go to the Type-C PD. 

Do you recommend other product beside TPS65987D. The problem with TPS65987D is the operating temperature. 

We need to operate minimum of -40C-+70C

Would the TPS65994ADRL work?
