DS125BR820: P2P replace for DS125BR800A

Part Number: DS125BR820
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS125BR800A, , DS125BR800

Hi,

My customer meet shortage issue for DS125BR800A.

They using in both PCIE gen3 and SAS 12G application.

Could we using DS125BR820 replace it directly? I saw there some pins is different.

Thanks!

Jeff

  • Hi,

Below is origin design for DS125BR800A. Please help review if possible change to DS125BR820. thanks!

  • Hi Jeff,

When sharing schematics in the future, would it be possible to share searchable PDFs?  This is really helpful for efficient schematic review.

In general, the DS125BR820 should perform similarly to the DS125BR800A if the DS125BR800A is set to transparent mode without de-emphasis.  Something I noticed is that your DS125BR800A is set to transparent mode with de-emphasis, but appears to implement 0 dB of DEM with the current pin settings.  Because of this, I believe the DS125BR800 would still be suitable in this system.  I would recommend considering IBIS AMI simulations to verify the DS125BR820 would provide adequate equalization.

Beyond this, you may need to re-evaluate which resistors you populate on the pins that differ between the DS125BR820 and DS125BR800A.

    Thanks,

    Drew

  • Hi Drew,

I've pass PDF file via privacy message. thanks!

  • Hi Jeff,

Thanks for sharing the PDF.  At this point, my recommendation would be that the customer evaluates which resistors need to be populated for the DS125BR820 design.  After going through this, I would be happy to review an updated schematic.

    Thanks,

    Drew
