TCAN1051HV: integrated level shifter

Part Number: TCAN1051HV
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1051, TCAN1044AV-Q1, TCAN1057AV-Q1

I am looking at TCAN1051, and in the data sheet it specifies only certain parts have the 3.3V integrated level shifter (since the supply voltage is 5V).

Does this mean the part can only run on a V_I/O of 3.3V, or does it mean we have the option to use 3.3V or 5V for V_I/O?

Or does the integrated level shifter mean that given a V_I/O of 5V it shift CAN TX and CAN RX down to 3.3V regardless of V_I/O input?

  • Logan,

It means that VIO can be supplied with 3.3V or 5V and still work correctly. The logic levels of the device will be translated to the voltage value applied to VIO. Our newer CAN transceivers, TCAN1044AV-Q1 and TCAN1057AV-Q1, also work down to 1.8V VIO logic.

    Regards,
