DP83TC811EVM: Getting started

Part Number: DP83TC811EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83TC811

My goal is to use this evaluation board to determine PHY signal strength via ethernet

1. connect an ESP32

2. connect DP83TC811EVM to another board via ethernet

3. connect an ESP32, read some values from DP83TC811EVM via serial to determine PHY signal strength

I reviewed your User's Guide and am confused how to get started. Here are some questions I have:

1. How can it connect to an ESP32?

2. The box does not contain a power source, how can I power this up?

3. Once it is powered up, does it need additional setup?

4. I see this on the main page - DP83TC811EVM-CDC-Driver Software - Does this need to be loaded onto the board? If so, how?

5. The User guide mentioned firmware, not sure where to get / how to load it?

6. Any beginner friendly guides how to get started?

Thank you.

  • Hi Kevin,

Please give us until EoD to respond to this.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hi Kevin,

The DP83TC811EVM is a media converter EVM with no external MAC interface connection. This EVM was not designed to be connected to a MAC for data transmission. Is the intention to connect the ESP32 to simply operate the MDC/MDIO interface?

Please also let me know the intention of this evaluation. Are you evaluating the DP83TC811 PHY for use in a new design? If so, we recommend our newer version of PHY, the DP83TC812/813/814, for which we have EVMs available.

    Thanks,

    David
