DS90UB949-Q1EVM: EEPROM Not Working With Device

Part Number: DS90UB949-Q1EVM

Hello,

We would like to configure our DS90UB949-Q1EVM with a different EDID than the pre-programmed. To do this, we currently manually write the desired EDID every time we power-on the DS90UB949-Q1EVM, but we would instead like to use an EEPROM to store our desired EDID to be loaded always. We have attempted to use a Microchip 24AA512-I/P, but have been unsuccessful to get it to work. We have some suspicions that it may not be functional due to the larger size of the memory (at 512KB).

We were hoping that you could help us determine whether the EEPROM we have selected is compatible, and if so, how we can properly set it up to use it. If it is not compatible, could you indicate why not, and recommend an EEPROM we should use instead? We've take a look at the the following document, but it is not specific enough as to the requirements of the EEPROM: /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/138/8267.Using-EDID-in-FPD_2D00_Link-Devices.pdf

Thanks!

  • Hi Ahmed,

We do no have particular guidance on specific EEPROM. As long as it fulfills the memory requirements and I2C voltage level/timing requirements for 949, then it should be fine.

have been unsuccessful to get it to work. We have some suspicions that it may not be functional due to the larger size of the memory (at 512KB).

Is it unsuccessful in properly flashing and reading back, or unsuccessful in interacting with the HDMI source/949? There might be some 949 strap issue if the latter.

    Regards,

    Logan

  • Hi Logan,

    Thanks for your response!

We were successfully able to flash, but were unable to read. One of our engineers has suspicion that our EEPROM device wants a 16-bit address but the TI EDID machinery is only capable of sending an 8-bit address. Are you aware of any such limitations on the EDID sending side of things?

Also: Can you give us an example application or example I2C transaction that the transceiver will use with the EEPROM?

We do no have particular guidance on specific EEPROM

In regards to guidance, if you can't specifically recommend us an EEPROM, could you provide information about an EEPROM you or another customer have successfully used? I'm perfectly fine purchasing an off-the-shelf EEPROM that's known working, rather than going through a wild goose chase to determine why ours may or may not work.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Ahmed,

The reason why I ask, is our device will not readback correctly if some of the straps/settings are incorrect.

We were successfully able to flash, but were unable to read.

Are you still able to readback successfully using a non-FPD-Link device? Such as the flashing tool or MCU, etc?

Other customers have mentioned of using Microchip 24LC16B and similar EEPROMs.

    Regards,

    Logan
