TCAN1051-Q1: Could CANL pin connected to GND

Part Number: TCAN1051-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1057A-Q1

Hi Exepert

We want let CANL PIN connet to GND , could these design work or these could be damage the CANL PIN

  • Hi Gabriel,

The CANL pin is capable of withstanding short to GND without damage. This is a fault condition that is common in CAN environments, so the devices are designed to withstand short to GND or battery without damage.

Keep in mind, it is very likely that CAN communication will be impossible during the fault.

The schematic you included does not look like a CAN connection. Was this schematic just intended for demonstrating the fault you're describing, or were you asking whether this is a feasible design? This would not be a way to communicate via CAN if so, as TCAN1051-Q1 is a differential driver that expects termination resistance between the CANH and CANL lines to return to the recessive state.

Also, please consider TCAN1057A-Q1 in place of TCAN1051-Q1, as TCAN1057A-Q1 is the newer component that fits in these footprints.

    Best,

    Danny
