DP83TC812S-Q1: What is the difference between TC10 and WOL.

Dear Team,

I want to use DP83TC812-Q1 or DP83TC811-Q1 IC for connected car application in zonal gateway ECU considering sleep wakeup scheme design. What i see in datasheet is DP83TC812-Q1 is supporting TC10 while DP83TC811-Q1 is supporting WOL. I am not able to understand what the difference between these two features is considering sleep wake up activity. In which application WOL is used and in which application TC10 is used.

Also guide for selection of device between DP83TC812-Q1 or DP83TC811-Q1. We want to keep minimum power consumption when vehicle is in sleep mode and need to do OTA activity etc..

Hi Manoj,

The main different between TC10 and WOL is WOL receive a packet and s send out the signal to other ICs in the board to tell them go to sleep but the PHY will operate in normal mode. Whereas TC10 will make PHY itself go to sleep. For more information on TC10, please refer to the following video:

Thanks for reply. Other IC means uP, uC interfaced to the PHY correct?.

Also, WOL is sent on normal mode only means link is active while TC10 support wake operation when link is not active?

Power consumption of the phy would be significantly different in WOL and TC10 low power mode?

TC10 could also support wake operation when link is active. Here is the article for more information:

For automotive application, TC10 is a more preferable option for low power mode.
