DS90UB953-Q1: can pattern send to 9702 separately when in sync mode

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Hi team,

My customer is using 4*953+9702 in sync mode.

And I know when in sync mode, if one 953 port is abnormal, the whole display will have black screen.

I wonder when we send pattern from 953, and there's one port is abnormal, will the pattern picture also all black on display or only the bad port will black?

Please see below picture as reference.

Please help check when one port is abnormal, will the display be A or B in the picture?

And if it is B, could you please kindly help check if we have registers to show which port is abnormal?

And please help check can we send pattern from 953 separately to 9702 in sync mode?

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hello Brian,

I believe the issue here is due to misunderstanding synchronous mode and synchronized forwarding. The difference between an output of A or B is not due to the device mode. The difference is due to the forwarding mode. With the 9702 and 953 in synchronous mode, the deserializer sends the reference clock to the serializer over the back channel. The serializer in synchronous mode will not require an external oscillator and will generate the forward channel from the back cannel.

However, with synchronized forwarding, the deserializer waits until video data is received from all serializers and sent together. This means, if one serializer behaves abnormally and no data is sent, the data from the other serializers is not sent as well. This behavior creates the blank screen.

By changing the forwarding method on the 9702 to best effort round robin, the data will output in option A pictured. Please note by switching to best effort round robin, there is more overhead in the system than in synchronized forwarding.

    Best,

    Zoe
