TUSB501: Inquiries about placement when applying TUSB501 (Redriver)

Part Number: TUSB501

Hi, Ti expert.

The customer is reviewing the use of TUSB501 for the Kiosk under development.

Customers have inquiries regarding placement when applying TUSB501 (Redriver).

The structure of the terminal/device is as follows:

The customer wants to use the USB3.0 line of the 4CH USB HUB of the MAIN PCB between the USB3.0 and GIGABIT Ethernet connections via 'BTOB CON ← FPCB → BTOB CON of the SUB PCB'.

Q1) Accurate use of EQ, DE, OS and how to select setting values?

Q2) The customer asks which side of the TX+- / RX+- line the TUSB501 (Redriver) should be placed close to when performing PCB Artwork.

(Installation location of USB3.0 Redriver (which side should be installed closer to the host or B to B connector?)

Q3) Please check if there is any guide document?

Please check. Thank you.

  • Hi,

    Please see my response below,

Q1) Accurate use of EQ, DE, OS and how to select setting values?

EQ, DE can be estimated first from the insertion loss of pre-channel (between the USB source and TUSB501) and the post-channel (between the TUSB501 and the B to B connector). EQ needs to match the insertion loss of the pre-channel and DE needs to match the insertion loss of the post-channel as close as possible. But fine tuning of the EQ, DE, and OS need to be done base on the USB compliance test result.

Q2) The customer asks which side of the TX+- / RX+- line the TUSB501 (Redriver) should be placed close to when performing PCB Artwork.

(Installation location of USB3.0 Redriver (which side should be installed closer to the host or B to B connector?)

The placement of the re-driver depends on the insertion loss of the pre-channel and the post-channel. The general guideline is to place closer to the B to B connector.

Q3) Please check if there is any guide document?
