TLK10034: RX Equalization Settings

Hello,

My customer is asking if there are register settings that can be read that provide the RX adaptive equalization settings being applied to the device.

I see that bits 11:8 in register 0x0008 correspond with LS Serdes Equalization control.  Table 5-38 provides the gain settings for the values in this register, however, it only states whether the gain is set to maximum or adaptive, along with some reserve settings.

Are these the only bits available to monitor regarding the RX adaptive equalization settings or is there another register that exposes the settings on which it's locked?

  • Hi Brian,

    On the low-speed side, register 0x0008 bits 11:8 are the only way to check RX adaptive equalization settings. Here is a short document which explains how each of the adaptive EQ settings work.

    On the high-speed side, register 0x0004 bits 14:12 can be used to set the HS RX precursor equalization selection.

  • Hi Lucas,

    On the high-side of the TLK10034, my customer would like to observe the state of the RX equalization to ensure that it comes out mid-range somewhere and that they don't have some signal integrity issue that maxes the device out.  They're hoping that maybe some of the reserved registers in the 0x8000-0x9000 address range hold the settings that were found by the adaptive equalizers.

    Thoughts?

    The only register bits which provide information about HS RX equalization are:

    • 0x1E.0x0003[10] HS_EQHLD
    • 0x1E.0x0004[14:12] HS_EQPRE
    • 0x1E.0x0004[7] HS_EQLIM

    HS_EQLIM is reserved. The description is the following.
