TRS3221E: Is there a higher fault protected RS232 transceiver available that can withstand a STB of 52V?

Part Number: TRS3221E

Need to survive a Short to Battery (STB) of 52V (automotive application).

Can you suggest an RS232 transceiver to meet this?

Regards,

Richard.

  • Hi Richard,

None of our RS-232 transceivers will meet that need without additional external protection.  The absolute maximum ratings of +/-25V on the RIN bus pins and the +/-13.2V  on the DOUT that you find on the TRS3221E is the most common rating you will find on our devices. So essentially the bus needs to be able to clamp below those respective ratings depending on what pin you have protection on during battery to short if possible or else we don't really have a great option.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions and I will see what I can do!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
