SN65LVPE512: Alternativee to use as this component is not for new designs

Part Number: SN65LVPE512
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002A, TUSB501,

I have a problem with signal quality in a USB3 device and tested the SN65LVPE512EVM eval board which surprisingly solved all the issues with the default settings.
Unfortunately it does not work when increasing the Equalization and all alternative circuits I have found have at least +3dB EQ.

Is there an alternative which is possible to set to 0dB EQ and 0dB DeEmphasis?

As this chip is not recommended for future designs, is there a time schedule for when it will be unavailable to buy?

Regards
Björn

  • Hi Björn,

Looking at our newer devices (522P, 501, 551), 3dB is the lowest setting for 5G re-drivers.

If you're interested in a 10G re-driver, the TUSB1002A has 1dB of gain at the lowest setting.

Is 0dB of EQ necessary on both channels? If you only need equalization on one channel you could use a one channel re-driver like the TUSB501.

    Best,

    Shane

  • I have also bought the eval board for the TUS501 and it does do the work we need.

What about future availablility of SN65LVPE512, is there a schedule for when LTB will occur?

  • Hi Björn,

I checked with marketing and we currently have no plans to discontinue this part. If we do EOL the SN65LVPE512 in the future, we would inform you and give the option for a LTB before production stops.

It should be ok to keep using this device if it suits your needs.

    Best,

    Shane
