DS90UB914Q-Q1: 2-input deserializer with two different FPD-LINK III serializers over STP.

Part Number: DS90UB914Q-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB926Q-Q1, DS90UB913Q-Q1, DS90UB953-Q1, DS90UB948-Q1

Hello. I am designing a surround view camera system for automotive applications. I need to use a deserializer with two switching inputs (or a differential 2:1 multiplexer) and a parallel RGB output with a bidirectional control channel. One camera has BT.656 output and another one has MIPI output.

Is it possible to use DS90UB914Q-Q1 deserializer with two different (MIPI and parallel input) serializers over STP via FPD-LINK III without additional converters? Maximum distance up to 10 meters.

Is it possible to switch FPD-LINK III channels with differential 2:1 multiplexer? Will it reduce max distance?

Also, I can use DS90UB926Q-Q1, but I need to add a 2:1 multiplexer.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your question. The DS90UB914Q-Q1 is compatible with both a parallel/DVP or a MIPI CSI serializer. However, different register configurations may be needed for each device depending on your system. Only one channel can be active at a time so care would just need to be taken when switching between the two serializers that each has been properly configured.

It is possible to use a multiplexer to switch FPD-Link channels, this app note contains some more details. The addition of a multiplexer will impact the loss seen on the channel, so care will need to be taken to minimize the impact and ensure all operating parameters are still met. This could potentially reduce the max achievable distance, but it is difficult to determine specifics since the impact will largely depend on the system.

    Regards,
    Darrah

  • Thank you. Does this mean that in the same way I can use the DS90UB948-Q1 receiver in dual-channel mode to connect two displays via LVDS and two types of cameras (BT.656 and MIPI СSI-2) connected to the DS90UB913Q-Q1 and DS90UB953-Q1 transmitters, respectively? At the same time, I need to achieve successful operation with a 5-cat Ethernet cable length of 10+ meters. Is this possible? I'm trying to find a solution to connect different cameras to the deserializer without additional converters. Also, I will have to use a multiplexer to switch cameras. Block diagram.

  • Hello,

No the DS90UB914Q-Q1 can only receive and output video data from one port at a time. So this means only the DS90UB913Q-Q1 or the DS90UB953-Q1 can be active at any given time. Both serializers can not transmit simultaneously. The achievable length is largely system dependent. Ethernet cables are not commonly used with FPD-Link devices so I do not have any previous data or specific references available to share. However, any chosen cable will need to meet the channel specifications including return loss and insertion loss, which are correlated with cable length and quality.
